Iceland
Extraterrestrial experience
There was a time when Iceland seemed unattainable. First there was the lengthy journey across the Atlantic. Since a price point that required the backing of Scrooge McDuck. Now the prices reasonable, travel is easy - but great adventure.
The meeting between European and North American tectonic plates creates a third continent of glaciers and geysers. The color scheme feels alien and the language sounds like Swedish, but still not. The mix is well-balanced. Partying in Reykjavik, take a breather in the Blue Lagoon. Creep into Thrihnukagigurs dark volcanic cone or gaze out over Latrabjergs feathered metropolis of puffins. At Heimaey waiting a northern Pompeii. And then there is complete freedom, Icelandic over silent heaths.
Suitable for: Nature enthusiasts, horse bitten, outdoor folk.
Best time to go here: Jun-August
